MojoPad 1.70.0 Released (Bug Fixes) (User Requests)

An answer that looks like something, not like a wall of text

  • When an answer is a set of things, it now arrives laid out. Ask a property for the five most recent stories on a site, with a summary and a link for each, and you get five cards — a section label, the headline, the summary, and a button through to the source. Not because you asked for a layout: because the answer is a list of things that each have a title, and MojoPad knows what that should look like.
  • The design is MojoPad’s, not the model’s. Left to itself a model reaches for grey boxes and default type, which look wrong on every theme and worse on a dark one — it has never seen your theme and cannot. So MojoPad supplies the appearance and the model supplies only the words. The same answer written this morning still looks right tonight, and looks like your wiki whichever palette you are in.
  • It knows when not to. Two items, a single explanation, a sentence — those stay as writing. Cards to dress up two lines would be worse than no cards at all.
  • Everywhere an answer appears now draws it the same way, so an answer in a property and an answer in the AI drawer look like the same application made both.

A kind that writes the first draft for you

  • Any property is now a template variable. Write $Top stories$ in a template page and it becomes that page’s answer. So a kind holds the questions, ✦ goes and gets the answers, and a template turns them into a piece of writing — the material dropped into your own headings, with a section left empty for what you actually think.
  • A fresh copy each time, which is the point. Insert it, edit it as freely as anything else you have written, and next week insert another. Nothing tries to keep your edits in step with anything, so nothing can overwrite them.
  • $date$ and $pageName$ still work, and a name that is not a property is left exactly as you typed it — somebody writing about money keeps their $100$.

How adventurous the model should be, for this wiki

  • A temperature setting, per document. Research and reference work want a model that is literal and repeatable — ask twice, get the same answer. Drafting and persuasive writing want one that reaches. Those are different wikis, often open at the same time, so the setting lives on the document: Info palette ▸ Document ▸ Model temperature. Leave it empty and it follows the app-wide setting in Settings ▸ AI.
  • And some models refuse to be told. Several newer ones decide it for themselves and reject the request outright — which, until now, looked like the model simply not working. MojoPad drops the setting and asks again rather than failing, and if a request is refused for any other reason you now see the provider’s own words instead of a shrug.

Fixes

  • ✦ Fill on a page filled things that were not on it. A page carrying one question could come back with four answers — properties belonging to an entirely different kind, written onto a page that had never carried them. The button counted correctly and then did something else. It now fills what the page actually asks, and so does the offer you get when you give a page a kind.
  • A wiki link no longer loses its heading or its block marker. [[Notes#^ab12cd]] and [[Notes#A Heading]] kept their brackets but quietly lost everything after the name the next time the page was saved. Your source now comes back exactly as you typed it, including on a page whose link target has since been deleted.
  • Plain-text pages keep their brackets. A plain-text page holding [[Some Page]] could have the brackets stripped by an automatic save, leaving the words behind. Plain text means the text is the text.
  • Converting a page to Markdown keeps its links. Every hand-made page link on it used to come out as plain words — the same for moving a page out to a file, or dragging one into a followed folder.
  • A model asked for a layout is no longer shown its own source code. An answer written as HTML arrived as HTML characters, which is the least useful possible outcome.
  • A server that stops answering no longer hangs the question, and a link inside styled content keeps its appearance when MojoPad makes it clickable.
