Switching columns keeps your place. In Side by Side — two pages open as editable columns — pressing ⌥⌘O to jump between them sent the cursor to the top of the page every time, losing your spot mid-document. Each column now remembers where your cursor was, so switching back lands you exactly where you left off, with the view held in place. (From a reader who caught it — thank you.)
