Pasted text you can actually read, and a manual that answers when you search it
- Text pasted from another app no longer arrives black on a dark theme. Apple Notes and its like stamp an explicit black on nearly every line they write, because in their document black is what the text is. Carried here faithfully, that is black words on a dark page. A pasted colour that is essentially pure black or pure white is now dropped — those are what “default” turns into at either end of the light/dark divide, not decisions anybody made — so your theme decides the colour, as it should. A colour you actually chose still comes through: a grey, a red, a highlight all survive. A near-white background goes the same way, being the same problem from the other side.
The Settings window says what it holds
- Editing had one heading over nineteen controls — fonts, spacing, the cursor, what happens as you type, pasting, and one property setting stranded among the fonts. It now has sections with those names.
- Two options had drifted under the wrong feature. The word-completion settings sat beneath a different checkbox and grey out with completions, so turning completions off appeared to grey out something else entirely. They sit under their own control now.
- Three things were filed where nobody would look. Keeping small windows in front is about windows, so it is in Appearance. Sharing on your local network was under Files & Backups, which is where documents live on disk, not how they are served over Wi-Fi — it has a Sharing pane. And the export settings were split across two panes and named for neither; they are an Exporting pane, with the paper setup.
The manual answers to the words you search
- The local API had a chapter nobody could find, because it never used the word “API” — searching returned pages about other things with similar names. It is now a chapter called The Local API, and it says which API it is not.
- Linked files and followed folders were nine sections buried inside another chapter; searching “linked file” landed on Settings. They are a chapter of their own.
- Roughly seventy corrections besides. A Settings pane that does not exist was cited eight times. A menu item was named wrongly in five places. The theme names, the page widths and several menu paths had drifted from what the app says on screen. A duplicated section explained the same feature twice, differently.
- Two things the manual had wrong about the app. A Markdown round trip no longer flattens a property that holds several answers — it hasn’t for a while. And a document set to share itself does ask the first time, on each Mac, whatever the setting says.
- And one it never said at all: encrypting a page deletes that page’s saved versions. They were plain-text drafts sitting beside the ciphertext, so they go. The app has always said so when it happens; now the manual says so before you get there.
